What is an IRS Enrolled Agent?

This is a very common question. Enrolled agent is a tax adviser who is a federally authorized tax practitioner empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Enrolled agents represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service for tax issues including audits, collections and appeals.

A normal tax preparer cannot deal directly with the IRS. An Enrolled Agent, CPA or Lawyer have the ability to contact the IRS directly to correct a tax error or represent you in case of an audit.
